Smart Things Everywhere
Today, technology has everyone’s attention by bringing new technologies which is making our lives easier. Smart devices, smart cars, smart roads, smart homes, even smart cities, all of these technologies are here to redefine the way we live.
It’s a smart world we live in, and its sole objective is to improve communication, sensation and intelligence and simplify our tasks and processes. The backbone of this new world is the Internet of Things, it made all this become a reality. Our future is digital, according to Gartner, by 2020, 20.8 billion devices will be connected to the internet.
The last couple of years have been interesting regarding technology and brought many innovations that made our lives easier. Let’s review some of these smart things.
Smart cars
Smart technology has made the world a better place, with fewer carbon emissions and limited noise pollution are some of the benefits helping lives. There is still more work to be done with Smart cars, we need to address security, especially with connected cars. Since the smart car’s “engine” is data, we need to do everything possible to keep it secure and impenetrable.
Smart roads for smart cars
The road as we know it today is about to change, and soon concrete will be replaced by a different technology, making our journeys more safe and animated. You are probably wondering what these intelligent roads will look like, here are a few thoughts: data capture capabilities, advanced safety features and speed controls. In short, the road will talk to our cars, making all our journeys safer and more pleasant.
Smart cities for smart roads
As I mentioned before, technology is changing everything it touches, from devices, cars, and roads and now entire cities. Smart cities are not something new, but this segment is constantly rising. By 2025 we are expected to see at least 88 intelligent cities, so we are heading in the right direction. Today everybody wants and needs speed, information, responsiveness and smart cities emerged from these specific needs. Here are some of the main advantages of a intelligent city brings:
- Facilitating the integration of systems and processes in public administration
- Better city planning and development
- Improved productivity and services
- Renewable source of energy
- Intelligent traffic management
- Integrated multi-model transport
Smart cities haven’t reached their full potential yet, but they are gaining momentum each day, and with the quickly evolving technology I don’t think it will be too long until we see the results.
