Amazon promotes cloud learning through AWS Educate
With the dramatically increasing demand for cloud employees, Amazon has launched earlier this month a new program that aims to educate young people to become cloud experts of the future. AWS Educate is a program designed to help educators bring cloud technology into the classroom as well as give students valuable experience before they enter the workforce.
According to Teresa Carlson, Vice President, Worldwide Public Sector, AWS, the platform will make it easy for teachers to “quickly and easily find cloud-related course content, incorporate cloud technology into their teaching curriculum, and provide students with hands-on experience with cloud technology.”
The program will be free for educational institutions, teachers and students, following a successful application. If accepted, one can get credits for AWS services for testing (like Amazon EC2, S3 and Amazon RDS). Also, web training and self-study sessions will be available, offering hands-on experience with the technologies. Finally, Amazon will also hold real-life and virtual events, as well as provide a wide range of materials for students and teachers.
By joining the program, students and education professionals will gain access to AWS Educate resources including:
- AWS credits: AWS credits can be earned and used for services including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), Amazon CloudFront, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Elastic MapReduce (Amazon EMR), Amazon Redshift, and Amazon Glacier.
- Web-based training and labs set at your own pace: Access and experience in working with AWS technologies. In addition, educators receive online access to AWS Essentials courses to improve their understanding of cloud technology.
- Collaboration forums: Teachers and students can attend in-person and virtual events designed to grow the AWS Educate community. Additionally, educators have access to a forum in which they can join discussions with other AWS Educators.
- AWS resources: All AWS Educate members have access to a wide library of learning materials including webinars on best practices, videos and customer case studies.
- Educator content: Education professionals can access and share professional development materials. Currently, AWS Educate hosts over 100 educator-uploaded materials from universities worldwide, including Harvard, Stanford and Cornell Tech.
Cloud computing is rapidly transforming the business landscape as we know it. However, a field can only progress if it has skilled staff behind it, and Amazon is working its way to be involved in training the next generation of cloud developers. Are you interested.
