Cloud Migration Platforms: The Devil’s in the Detail – Part I
Cloud computing has been a hot topic of discussion for some time now – and it’s far from over. The industry is expected to continue to grow, and cloud migration is now a standard feature in most IT budgets.
According to IDC, the global spend on public cloud services is predicted to reach $160 billion in 2018, a 23.2% increase on 2017. This rise is influenced by the development of different migration platforms that help companies move their workloads to a cloud environment without risks and disruption.
Speaking of cloud migration platforms, a few weeks ago I created an infographic to compare three platforms that got my interest in the past year. However, after posting the material, I wanted to deepen my analysis across a wider range of cloud migration platforms to give a broader comparison. So I included the following: Zerto, Veeam, HCX (VMware), RiverMeadow, ASR (Microsoft), Server Migration Service (AWS), CloudEndure. This time, more analysis variables were compared and I also created a scoring system (from 1 to 10), so I can calculate the final results.
Let’s see what I’ve found this time.
I am only half way through the comparison but, so far, RiverMeadow has outpassed the other migration platforms by some way. Its greater capabilities across the board – from the number of platforms supported to target cloud options to low-cost SaaS-based pricing model put it firmly in top place as the tool of choice when it comes to cloud migration.
However, my analysis is not over yet. More technical comparisons will follow soon. Watch this space!
