Routine Technology Problems Drive Huge Losses in Productivity for Employees, Companies and Countries

New global survey on “IT Friction” reflects a negative annual impact exceeding $100 billion for Fortune 100 companies alone, potentially trillions in global Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The cost of routine IT issues experienced by workers and businesses is negatively impacting employee and company productivity. Forrester examined the issue of “IT friction” in the workplace and pilled up the results in a report entitled “Exploring Business and IT Friction: Myths and Realities.”

900 IT professionals and 900 business users from across North America, Europe and Asia were surveyed. The findings show that workers and their companies suffered significant losses in productivity due to IT issues. 86% of employees lose approximately 18 hours a month – about 5 weeks each year due to IT issues and the subsequent challenges in resolving them. Representing a 10% productivity hit, the average annual cost for each “normally” impacted employee is approximately $3,700.  That number can spike even higher for the most severely impacted employees, who lose as much as 52% of their productive work time. Companies also fail to repurpose those employee hours towards productive work and revenue.

In response to this workplace crisis, BMC launched BMC MyIT – an enterprise software application that provides personalized assistance to employees experiencing IT issues. This will allow employees to take personal control over the delivery of the technology services and information they need – anytime, anywhere, from any device.

MyIT provides end users easy access to IT services – reducing IT friction and making the user and the IT team more productive. Users can have important information and updates pushed to them from IT. They can schedule an appointment with an expert, and raise new service requests with just a couple of clicks. And because MyIT employs accurate geo-location functionality, employees can benefit from instantly tailored services and personalized assistance that are relevant to where they are and what they’re doing.

As a result, BMC MyIT resolves many expensive, interlocking problems while delivering a wide array of significant operational benefits, such as:

  • Reduced IT Service Costs
  • Improved Productivity
  • Happier Employees
  • Stronger IT Organizations

What do you think? Would MyIT bring value inside your organization? Is your company taking into consideration adopting this kind of solution? Add your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
